There are properties listed in heritage register which have no heritage significance. My property is an example of it. When I applied for a heritage grant on a number of elements of my property. They all got rejected because they weren't "heritage enough" elements.
Yet when I go to add the 3rd story addition to my house. I face heritage scrutiny and not permitted to add a third story. The city painted the whole area with the same brush making my property heritage.
Now I am here to face extra juggling to fight against this unfairness!...spend more time and money on my side to fix what city did wrong!... Not fair at all.
We need a quick process to fix these kinds of issues. I should have access to a quicker process or application where I could de-list my property which has been unfairly added to the register.
City heritage staff never answer my emails about " how to de-register a heritage property". Perhaps the staff wants to keep their job by keeping a higher inventory number for heritage properties they manage.
We need to solve these problems. My property is located in Ottawa Centertown. Please contact me if you require more information or help.
