The Green Belt was meant to be permanent, protected land for our environment, our farmers and our food. Using this land to build houses goes against everything it was meant to protect.
Doug Ford made a big point of saying how it was important to have things made in Canada so we do not get caught once again at the mercy of other nations. These were wise words. The question is, does he really believe it? Taking some of our Greenbelt opens it up to use more of it for something else down the road. If we don't have this land to grow our own food, where does he think we are going to get it from? Food insecurity could end up being a real problem from this act.
The Greenbelt does so much to protect the environment, prevent flooding, and as stated above keep our rich soil available to plant food to feed Ontarians.
Please, I urge you, do not follow through with the proposed amendments to the Greenbelt. Leave it to be permanent as it was meant to be.
