I am against Bill 4, the Cap and Trade Cancellation Act 2018. The cap and trade policy created essential funding that was used to help citizens of Ontario make their homes energy efficient. This helped in 2 ways. People who qualified for this help were able to save money on energy by insulating their homes, getting a better furnace, energy efficient windows, etc. Also as a result of less energy used, this helped the environment.
Cancelling this act also cancels the Climate Mitigation and Low-Carbon Economy Act of 2016. It is extremely important that we help reduce our carbon footprint across the globe, in order to reduce climate change, and protect our ecosystems. The earth is our home and we must respect it. We also must protect our environment for our children and grandchildren and many generations after that.
It would be very short sighted to cancel these policies, just to save money in the short term, when the result will be permanent damage to our planet over many future generations. We do not live just for ourselves. We live for the whole planet, and for all who come here after us. Please consider your own children and grandchildren. Please consider the beauty of the earth itself. Do not vote for this bill. Thank you.
