This proposal is yet another ham fisted attempt by this incompetent provincial government to intervene and impede the sustainable growth of the cities in our province. There is no factual basis that increased lanes of traffic reduce congestion - they simply encourage more cars on the road which worsens congestion in the long term. We should be striving to increase to flow of people, not cars, in our cities. Cars are a horribly inefficient way to move people in a city, whereas biking and use of public transit should be encouraged. Increased bike lanes additionally promote healthy living, benefitting everyone in the healthcare system. Constricting these locally-led changes with frivolous red tape flies in the face of conservatism and municipal jurisdiction, and calls into question the utility of a costly ministry of red tape réduction. End this nonsense NOW.
