Hello,
I feel that the proposed bill is taking the province in the wrong direction as far as fighting global warming is concerned. The recently released U.N. report makes it clear that we must act immediately and decisively if we are to stop the serious consequences of global warming. With the implementation of this act the province will have no plan to fight climate change.
We can no longer treat the atmosphere as a garbage dump and therefore there should be a price on carbon. Polluters must pay. IT'S A FINE NOT A TAX. Revenue from carbon pricing could be used to help average Ontarians to reduce their carbon footprint or help businesses create a carbon free economy which has to be the wave of the future if the planet is to remain inhabitable. A carbon free economy has the potential to create more jobs than our present fossil fuel centred economy. We must also end subsidies to the fossil fuel industry.
We must have legally binding emissions targets in line with our obligations to the Paris Climate Agreement and to help Ontario to become carbon neutral by 2050.
If we are to leave a habitable planet for our children and grandchildren we must act now and not put off action because of political or corporate considerations.
Thank you.
