I fully support the proposal in ERO 019-8289 to modify the Rondeau Park Management Plan, allowing cottages to remain in Rondeau Park until at least 2038. The original 1894 Park charter identifies the cottage community as one of the key reasons for the Park’s establishment, and the Heritage Cottage Community has been an essential part of the Park since its beginning.
Further, any new leases or extensions related to this initiative should include fair terms and conditions and should not aim for eviction through harsh financial penalties. These new lease agreements must be created in collaboration with the Rondeau Cottagers Association.
Lastly, the decision regarding ERO 011-1300, posted on December 20, 2019, indicated that “Our final policy decision regarding this proposal will enable us to consult on a new option for the long-term occupation of cottage lots. We anticipate posting a new proposal on the Environmental Registry of Ontario early in 2020.” The cottage community is eagerly awaiting this proposal and looks forward to discussions on developing a long-term solution for cottage tenure.
