This proposed biosolids storage facility will be a dumping ground with no concern for the people and animals and wildlife that live in the area and the land and river. Shame on this proposal. There is no proposed facility, it’s a bio solid dump! The runoff is contaminated and will go into the Sydenham river. It will be an eyesore. A cheap, slap up nothing facility, of tarp and tires and biosolids, built for the bottom line:$. Shame on this proposal. I am commenting also on behalf of 8 other family members.
Please see below:

The current proposed site plan indicates a facility with 2' high walls with the ability to store biosolids up to 7 meters high. Each of 2 bunkers is 46 meters by 247 meters. These piles would be covered with tarp and tires only. This is for a permanent, long-term storage and distribution centre that would load and/or unload truckloads of biosolids potentially daily most of the year.
Remember: We are dealing with a site plan first and a controversial product second.
This storage facility is setting a precedent. If approved, it would be the first of its kind in Ontario.
The current proposed site plan is NOT sufficient to deal with the concerns of area residents.
If the storage facility were fully enclosed, that would help to mitigate our concerns by fully containing the biosolids as well as maintaining humidity controls which would then reduce dust, odour and the risk of spontaneous combustion.
Some Items for Consideration:
- A primary consideration may be to minimize the volume of potential storm water runoff.
Solution to reduce the volume of runoff would be to have a fully enclosed facility with full walls and a permanent roof, including for the loading and unloading areas.
Extreme weather events are becoming more common.
On August 23, 2023, the property for the proposed site received 6 inches of rain in less than 3 hours.
Fields were flooded. Roads were flooded. Rivers were flooded. The natural runoff for this property is straight downhill into the Sydenham River.
A structure with full walls and permanent roof would be better able to handle these types of weather events.
The storm water runoff would be a significantly lower volume to deal with if the biosolids were completely contained.
