I'm a physician who cares for older adults with dementia and its precursor, mild cognitive impairment. Air quality is a known risk factor for dementia. My patients and their families have few options for reducing their air pollution exposure if they want to leave their homes. They rely on government to make decisions that will protect air quality - like promoting bike lanes.
It's not just older adults who suffer. Once a person is diagnosed with this condition, they cost the health care system an average of 70K a year.
Most seniors don't use bike lanes, but they do benefit from them. We all do.
