In response to MTO’s request for feedback “to see if there are opportunities to improve the current Corridor Signing Policy”, Farhi Holdings Corporation would like to have our position included for consideration.
As the owner of several hundred acres of land along 400-series highways and their feeders and a number of inter-related businesses located elsewhere, we have a keen interest in being able to use some locations on our properties for the display of signage related to the lands themselves (for sale, for development, etc.) and to other businesses owned by FHC.
We do not believe it is reasonable to restrict our ability to advertise our companies on land we own.
This is especially important in these times of economic difficulty, when business needs to seize every opportunity to put its name before the public. We know from our own experience how effective signage can be in promoting business, and with more than 500 people on our payroll, keeping our companies in the black is important to hundreds of Ontario families.
We do not support unlimited signage along our highways, but we do believe land owners who also own businesses elsewhere should be able to advertise their holdings on their own property, within reasonable limits.
We respectfully urge the Minister to modify the existing regulations to allow such usage, in the interests of not unduly limiting a business’ ability to promote its goods and services to the public on its own property.
