I strongly oppose the proposed Dresden landfill expansion and the Ford government’s attempt to bypass Ontario’s Environmental Assessment process.
This project is a direct threat to the health, safety, and economic future of Dresden and all of Chatham-Kent.
The decision to revoke Ontario Regulation 284/24 — which required a full Environmental Assessment — is not just irresponsible, it's dangerous. You are removing public safety mechanisms for the benefit of private waste companies with clear political ties to the current government.
Let’s be clear:
This site is less than 1 km from a high school
It's surrounded by farmland, homes, and waterways
It will run 24/7 with up to 6,000 tonnes of waste per day
There has been no meaningful consultation with residents or Indigenous communities
The project was already opposed by the community, council, and experts — and an EA was granted. You are now undoing public will through legislation.
Doug Ford is using “Trump’s tariffs” as an excuse to fast-track environmental destruction — without evidence, without precedent, and without respect for local democracy. That’s not leadership. That’s a sellout.
Rural Ontario is not a dumping ground. We are not disposable. We demand the full Environmental Assessment be reinstated and this project halted immediately
