Removing an environmental assessment for a proposed land fill/dump is bad enough. Removing the need for an assessment when the property backs on to a creek that feed into a major river is absurd. But putting a dump on a property which is adjacent to the town line of Dresden is criminal and against the rules and regulations that govern how close a dump/landfill can be to a town. With the property York1 has purchased to expand the ash fly holding lot to a mega dump is right on the town line of Dresden. Who in there right mind would put a dump that close to a town in rural Ontario?
How is it possible to know the effects this dump will have on the environment without an assessment. This proposed dump is not in the middle on nowhere it is literally adjacent to Dresden and what ever happens at that dump, whether it is run off from storm in to the creek, leaching through untested soil into neighbors wells, noise from crushing and recycling concrete, asbestos in the air from old building materials floating towards the High School 500 meters to the south and the smell from untreated waste will have a negative effect on the residents near by.
I have never heard of a dump being located this near a town, probably because the rules say it can't be, or this far away from a major HWY system, because who wants to run 100's of trucks a day through multiple communities. All of these concerns here would be addressed by a environmental assessment and a informed decision would be made and we wouldn't be looking at a future Love Canal.
