I firmly oppose this proposed legislation, which not only strips away critical protections for endangered species and fragile ecosystems but also disregards the rights and sovereignty of Indigenous Peoples. This bill is a striking example of irresponsible governance. It ignores the urgent environmental crises we face, weakens science-based conservation strategies, and violates both Canadian legal standards and the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples by failing to ensure meaningful consultation.

As a young person, I find the passage of legislation like this deeply disheartening. It sends a clear message that short-term interests are prioritized over our planet's and communities' long-term health. It leaves me with a grim outlook on the future and the world I may one day raise children in, a world that should be rich in biodiversity, grounded in justice, and guided by respect for Indigenous rights and scientific understanding.

Protecting our natural environment and respecting Indigenous rights are not barriers to progress. They are essential pillars of a fair and sustainable future. Legislation that impacts land, water, and biodiversity must be developed openly and inclusively, with the full involvement of Indigenous nations and affected communities. This bill does precisely the opposite.

I call on the government to withdraw this harmful legislation and commit to authentic dialogue with Indigenous leaders, environmental scientists, conservation experts, and the wider public. Safeguarding endangered species is not a choice. It is a moral and legal responsibility.
