As a resident, born and raised in Ontario, I am concerned about the cost of housing. Frankly, I don't know if I will ever have the money to purchase a house in my hometown. As disheartening as this is, it is even more crushing to hear about the actions taken by my provincial government to sabotage the environment that makes Ontario a good place to live. From decisions to decrease funding to the Ministry of the Environment, cutting flood management funding to conservation authorities, attempting to open the greenbelt to development, knocking down precious habitat on public land at Ontario place for new private owners, undermining conservation authorities, and making it easier to build on wetlands, the government is showing that it does not care about the Canada's natural environment or Canadians' quality of life. Now, with these proposed changes to the Endangered Species Act, the government goes a step further to support building without proper planning or consideration for what Canadians actually want or need. The government is being reckless with our future under the guise of creating homes. Canadians need homes but also good, healthy places to live. We need the Endangered Species Act to protect plants and animals that are already threatened by human development. Aquatic life and migratory birds are important and should be protected. Restoration plans are important. I reject the changes to the act that will harm our wildlife and I support further protections and recovery measures.
