This proposal is very concerning. It is not an impartial proposal and is heavily swayed to have a positive impact for developers. Endangered species, and ultimately the environment as a whole, requires stricter protection and enforcement, now more than ever. This proposal, with the removal and redefining of terms such as habitat and harass, will lead to increased harm, decreased protection and increased loss of endangered species. It cannot fall to the provincial government alone to make decisions such as removing endangered species from the list at their own discretion. The current government has come across as heavily biased towards the promotion of development and infrastructure and this proposal is an attempt to discretely implement this bias further. The current protections should be maintained and, if anything, increased as the request for increased development continues to rise. The ability to submit an application and then immediately be able to proceed without oversight is extremely harmful, dangerous and reckless. Please protect our endangered (and non-endangered species who are also affected by our society’s increased development and increasing population) species and do not allow proposals like this to pass. It will only have negative consequences to endangered species. Consequences that may not ever be rectified.
