My family and I have major concerns over this proposal. We are concerned for the well being of our small town.

The proximity of this landfill to homes and schools is much too close. One would think, this alone would stop the threat of a landfill from coming to our town, but here we are.

Among other concerns:

Water safety and runoff into the local river and creeks could potentially cause harm to local wildlife/endangered species, as well as surrounding farmland.

Air quality in the area will worsen due to dust and debris from landfill processing and from increased transport traffic.

Road quality in the area will too suffer from increased traffic solely from the landfill. Along with most 401 transport drivers are not used to driving with farm machinery to look out for on the roads, increasing the risk for deadly accidents. There is no good route to get to this landfill as it is so far from the 401 or 402.

When this landfill expansion was originally proposed, the citizens were told that the landfill would only handle and sort “construction waste” and that it would be considered more of a “transfer station” than a landfill. We were told, once sorted, the majority of the waste would then be shipped out and be sent to Michigan. This wasn’t acceptable back then (when this was first proposed), and it’s unacceptable now. The provincial government says we send too much of our waste to the states, which is subject to tariffs and the trade war. If the waste will not be going to the U.S anymore, where will it go? It will stay in our town. We completely oppose this.

Our town is not looking for donations from landfill company’s for anything. Our community would rather “go without”, than take money from landfill companies.

If the tariffs propose such a threat to our province and we need to fast track landfill operations, we should easily be able to zone areas closer to the 400-series highways, in areas no where near thriving communities.

The impact of this landfill in our community will last generations compared to the impact of potentially 3 more years of tariffs. We need to think about our fellow Canadians first.

My family and I completely oppose this proposal and ask that a complete environmental assessment be reinstated.
