I am in strong opposition to…

I am in strong opposition to this Bill which will allow York1 to start sending 700 trucks a day to a disposal site that is less than a kilometre from our town centre! The roads were not built to withstand those loads; there are high school and elementary children walking along our main road daily and they will be endangered by this traffic and the trucks will significantly disrupt the businesses in the core of our town.

Of even greater importance is the impact that this would have on our rivers and the environment around the disposal site. Having lived near the banks of the Sydenham River for over 35 years, it has been wonderful to be able to watch the wildlife that flourish in the river and on its banks. This could be seriously jeopardized without an Environmental Assessment to watch over and limit how the dump could be set up.

While I would much prefer to have the possibility of a huge dump so close to my home be taken off the table completely, to take the required Environmental Assessment that was previously promised out of the equation is a ludicrous decision that generations to come will totally regret. Once the environment has been destroyed, it won't come back easily!!
