This is written in opposition to the proposed Dresden Landfill site. The following are some concerns to consider.

Bill 5 the Environmental Assessment was cancelled in April 2025 by the Conservative Party. In 2024 during the conservative campaign the representative Steve Pinsonneault assured the residents of the community he would support the necessary environmental assessment prior to approval of the recycling and landfill site. This cancellation of the assessment by Premier Doug Ford was done because of tariff threats by Trump. Trump’s whimsical behaviour should not be the rationale to cancel the environmental assessment. Both MPP , Pinsonneault and Jones, who were recently elected to represent the area supported and environment assessment.

Proximity to a community is less than 1 kilometre. They are landfill and waste retirements, that support a great distance for garbage sites, from viable communities.

Pollution from the dump, and the vehicle traffic.

Noise as site to operate 24/7.

Transportation infrastructure. The roads are not structured to handle 700 trucks on municipal roads and county roads. The truck weights, and seasonal issues on rural roads due to weather conditions and our rural farming traffic.

Traffic through small communities whether travelling off the 401 or 402.

Carbon footprint from 700 trucks travel to and from Toronto to Dresden daily.

Methane gas production from waste disposal in landfills.

Sydenham watershed impacts to the waters and animal habitat from Molly Creek to the Sydenham to the St. Claire River.

Species especially endangered species in the watershed region: turtles, fish etc.

Leaching from the dump into the waterway.

Increased unwanted species due to garbage: rodents, raccoons, sea gulls etc.

Odour produced by rotten waste.

Impacts on the business, 2 schools, recreational facilities, homes in Dresden.

Property values will plummet in the communities impacted by waste truck and a dump in you living area.

Communities that create the waste need to be responsible for their own solutions to recycling waste and reducing their impact on communities. If you create the trash you should be responsible for disposing it in your own municipality. Obviously they are not recycling and reusing materials in a responsible way to have 700 truck of waste from Toronto daily!
