I am disgusted that the provincial government is working to undermine important regulations that protect the environment and human lives with this bill. Many of these regulations were put into place because lives were lost or threatened. I do not consider that to be "unnecessary red tape". Furthermore, I am deeply disturbed that after pledging to leave the greenbelt alone, industry is now being given a pass to raze it. I am concerned that our government does not seem to understand the vital importance of green spaces and their important contributions to human health, safety, and wellbeing.
Jobs cannot come at the expense of human health and safety, including at the expense of the safe and clean environment we all depend upon to survive and live life. That is not putting the people of Ontario first. I would strongly urge the government to reconsider what it considers to be "unnecessary regulation" and stand up for the safety of Ontarians and the integrity of our environment by not passing this bill, at least not as it presently stands.
