I have a deep concern and strong opposition to the proposed changes to Ontario’s Endangered Species Act. This legislation exists to protect the biodiversity and natural heritage that make Ontario such a vibrant and livable province.

The proposal to weaken protections under the guise of "streamlining" or "efficiency" is deeply troubling. Unless the development these changes are meant to facilitate is explicitly and transparently tied to building subsidized housing, expanding public transportation, and creating free, accessible community spaces—none of which the current provincial government has prioritized historically—then these amendments will serve only to accelerate the destruction of Ontario’s remaining green spaces.

Our endangered species and their habitats are not expendable. Once they’re gone, they’re gone forever. If these changes go through, it won’t be for the public good—it will be for short-term profits at the expense of long-term environmental health and sustainability.

I urge you to reconsider this proposal. Ontario’s future should be green, just, and inclusive—not paved over for the benefit of developers.

Sincerely,
Adrienne
