I do not support Bill 5 and the proposed changes to the Endangered Species Act. Doug Ford has spoken out against Donald Trump’s comment about buying Canada, much to the relief of many. However, he is now going back on his word. These proposed changes are blatant hypocrisy. If Canada is not for sale, why is Ontario?
It is important, now more than ever, to foster a patriotic and community-based legislation that will protect Canadians, including the wildlife and untouched spaces that Canada is known and praised for. Lowering the protections for these areas will devastate the populations of endangered species. This has already happened to Blanchards Cricket Frog, which was extirpated from Ontario due to the loss of their wetland habitat as a direct consequence of continuing development and resulting pollution.
I urge you to listen to Canadian citizens, who you have sworn to protect by not selling Canada to the United States of America, rather than the corporations who are only looking to expand their concrete empire while disregarding the devastation left in their wake.
We Canadians are proud of the wild land we call home, and we urge you to do your duty to protect it by not implementing this harmful change.
God keep our land glorious and free. Oh Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
Mr. Ford, keep our land glorious and free.
