This is a terrible bill that will gut environental protections that are necessary and hard fought for, at a time when we should be doing everything we can to try to deal with and mitigate climate change in ways that are based on science. If not we may have lots of homes and highways but limited farmland to grow our food, compromised air and water and animals that are part of our world, extinct. Quoting the World Wildlife Federation, this bill "would give the government the power to exempt any developments from all regulations in regions designated as “Special Economic Zones. This is not red-tape reduction; it’s environmental deregulation with no accountability at the cost of species extinctions and long-term ecological collapse."
I don't know why Mr. Ford and his government don't understand the climate urgency we are facing and the consequences of their actions. I did not vote for this.
They are also systematically moving toward concentrating all decision making power with the Province and the voters voices and their elected municipal representatives will have no say. People/voters should have a say in what happens to the area where they live. WHY DO WE VOTE!!
That includes input from Indiginous peoples re how their lands are developed and potentially mined ie Ring of Fire. They have had to live with the consequences of decisions imposed on them for too long. This must stop! This bill is absolutely appalling and undemocratic in its content. We are on a slippery slope! This bill must be withdrawn!! Thank you for considering my concerns.
