A species conservation act should be supported based on the purpose of the endangered species act NOT based on cost impact to housing, transit, or infrastructure. The proposal speaks of "streamlining", but in a way that makes it faster/better to get permits for building (shortcuts) rather than faster/better for ensuring endangered species protection. This is supposed to be an endangered species act, not a building and development act.
It's stated that the purpose of the species protection legislation will be to drive species protection and conservation while "taking into account social and economic considerations, including the need for sustainable economic growth in Ontario." This basically say the you want to protect species unless it slows development or costs any money. It's a complete contradiction to say, for example, that we will protect endangered species habitat unless we want that habitat for development and revenue. This would put every greenspace at risk since it would allow justification for ignoring the act entirely.
