As a student graduating with a degree in biology and a specialization in conservation, I feel it is imperative to protect these species. When species begin to exit an ecosystem as a result of human disturbance it causes a shift in the eco system that is difficult if not impossible to ameliorate. The environment will naturally undergo ecological succession and slowly recover (this can take almost 30 years or more) however, species that have gone into extinction cannot be recovered. Yellowstone national park saw entire waterways change when they reintroduced wolves to their ecosystem. Please help us science nerds protect these species. It is in the best interests of environmental health that we do so. A loss in biodiversity can be incredibly hard on an environment. I cannot further express the importance of conservation and protection of our endangered species. They are not red tape to the development of our country but rather an integral part of Canadian identity. Please listen to the research amongst my colleagues and fellow scientists and remember that these things cannot be recovered once they are gone.
