While I agree with this proposal in the sense that we should not be needlessly adding capacity to our system. However, if the province could negotiate contracts to sell power to areas outside the province, the province would need to have excess capacity to sell. Cancelling these types of projects would limit the provinces ability to generate revenue in this way.
The more glaring concern in the light of climate change and reducing emissions, I believe new renewable contracts should be issued to replace the existing Natural Gas plants in the province. A completely emission free grid would be a huge step forward for the province, especially in the absence of any other meaningful measures, such as a carbon tax. An emission free grid would provide many challenges to develop and improve current renewable energy storage system technologies. The challenges would lead to economic growth in an area desperately needed nationally and internationally.
