The changes being proposed by Bill 5 threaten the biodiversity that defines Ontario’s natural heritage and the wildlife we need to protect. I believe Bill 5 contradicts not only science-based conservation practices but also Canada’s global commitments to halt biodiversity loss. It also undermines public participation and Indigenous rights by fast-tracking developments without adequate oversight or consultation.
I believe we need strong environmental protections for endangered species and therefore I oppose shortcuts for industry with no public oversight, and strongly oppose overriding the law in special economic zones.
