I am writing to express my strong opposition to this proposal to effectively weaken species protection in Ontario.

As a result of fossil fuel-driven climate change and habitat destruction, we are in the midst of a sixth mass extinction. Any proposal to weaken, rather than strengthen, species protection must be rejected.

We need to ensure that the protection of too many vulnerable species in Ontario is guided by strong oversight and science-based decision-making.

I call upon the provincial government to withdraw the proposed interim changes to the Endangered Species Act, 2007 and the proposed Species Conservation Act, 2025.
