I am a renter who should be able to buy a home, but can't, so supposedly this is done in my name. But in a world in which extreme heat and weather events are all the more frequent, Green Building Standards are essential to building resilient homes and to reducing their carbon footprints, so that we don't, in the very act of building, accelerate climate change even more. I also live in an energy inefficient house right now, and I can say that spending $200 on hydro a month in a small one-bedroom is a financial burden. My understanding is that Green Building Standards can actually reduce red tape because they consolidate sustainability related standards, and that cities that have eliminated GDS have seen things actually slow down. Speed isn't everything, and while we do very much need more housing, we can do so in a way that is efficient, keeps people safe, and that doesn't compromise the prospects of future generations,
