I generally oppose MZOs because they allow the provincial government to override local planning authority to approve development without expert analysis, public input, or any chance of appeal. The fact that I support this MZO by the the Mayor of Hamilton speaks to the seriousness of moving the proposed City Housing Hamilton Jamesville Redevelopment project forward (https://www.hamilton.ca/build-invest-grow/planning-development/waterfro…; https://www.reimaginejamesville.ca/).

Railways in this country are notorious for opposing any housing deemed "too close" to their operations. The existing buildings (now vacant for a decade) have existed near the CN rail yard since 1969. Why is it no longer appropriate to have desperately needed housing in this location in 2025?

There are many residential streets closer to the rail yard, many of which look over the rail yard. The Jamesville location is quite a bit further from the main part of the rail yard.

I live close to another rail yard in Hamilton, much closer than the Jamesville location and while I understand the concerns of railways, it is shameful that they have created yet another obstruction to getting this much needed development built. I assume it's because their conditions are unworkable.

Perhaps your government can work with your federal counterparts to convince/force CN to withdraw their appeal. If not, then I support an MZO.
