I think that an MZO is required for the subject lands (Jamesville, Hamilton, ON). The site was previously affordable housing. There is a significant need for affordable housing in Hamilton. The proposal includes supported affordable housing. It has been shown that supported affordable housing is one of the most cost effective ways to provide for the most vulnerable individuals. If we provide supported affordable housing for these individuals, they make significantly fewer emergency room visits, have significantly fewer overnight hospital stays, and when they are admitted to hospital their length of stay in the hospital is significantly shorter. Providing this type of housing will provide significant reduction in demand on our health care system.
