Wasaga Beach Provincial Park protects the coastline for many species, including the endangered piping plover. About a week ago, we visited this area, and even with the protection afforded the dunes and beach by the provincial and national park deisgnations, I was shocked by the disrepect some people showed, leaving garbage, trampling dune grass and playing very loud music, in an area where electronic noise was prohibited. Even riding around on a sea-doo within a little cove filled with kids enjoying the water. I did what I could to pick up litter, but it shouldn't even have been there.
Too much of our coastline is already privatized and exploited. Not enough of our natural spaces in Ontario are protected. Instead of allowing for parts of the beach to be privatized, why not support nature learning in schools, so people know how to enjoy these beautiful natural gifts, rather than tearing them up.
