I strongly oppose an open hunting season on cormorants. These native birds were saved from extinction and now the Ontario Government is calling for their eradication because of unproven accounts that say they eat too many fish. This is ridiculous and unscientific. Add to the idea that no one will actually eat these birds, their corpses will be left to rot and chicks will starve. We should be learning from our mistakes and not repeating them. The slaughter of ANY animal species with out very strict guidelines and sound reasoning should not be allowed. Cormorants are native to Ontario, they serve an ecological purpose and we should recognize that.
