While I have not generally been in favor of the use of MZOs, in this case, I believe one should be seriously considered. We are strong supporters of Indwell and its work to provide affordable housing, and I volunteer with Hamilton Habitat. I have helped to build several houses, and have put in many hours rehabbing Hamilton city housing. I am very aware of the housing shortage, and the vacant and deteriorated project on James St. north. Allowing this project to proceed would provide much needed affordable housing without the need for rezoning or extending urban boundaries. The area provides easy access to transit, and the waterfront making it a great place to live.
