The unique feature of Wasaga Beach, longest freshwater beach, home of the very few remaining nesting grounds of the Pippen Plover and an important stop over for monarch butterflies needs to be protected not just now, but for our future generations. Turning parts of the Provincial Park over to private hands is to put the future in the hands of developers who only want to make money. Furthermore, the mouth of the Nottawasaga River is an important and fragile ecosystem, essential for protection of fish populations, including sturgeon. The original reason for setting aside these lands as Provincial Parkland still exists. It may be cliche to say, but truly, once it is gone it is gone forever. Equally important, is the cultural significance of these lands be it for Indigenous people or our own history. I am astonished and ashamed that the government of my province views this transition of invaluable and irreplaceable public parkland to the hands of private or municipal enterprise as acceptable.
