I strongly oppose the removal of land from Ontario’s provincial park system to transfer it to the Town of Wasaga Beach.
This land includes sensitive dune ecosystems that provide critical habitat for species at risk — areas that should be protected, not developed in any way. Wasaga Beach experiences significant visitor pressure already, and adding more land for potential development or tourism infrastructure only threatens the ecological integrity of the region. The economic potential would be limited in scope
Allowing this transfer would set a deeply troubling precedent — that protected parkland can be carved out and handed over to municipalities when convenient.
Ontario’s provincial parks were created to preserve natural heritage for current and future generations, not to be chipped away for short-term gains.
This proposal undermines conservation efforts and the public trust in the protection of our most ecologically valuable spaces.
