How can you restore a heritage site that already exists and flourishes? Wasaga beach is already one of the most visited provincial parks here in Ontario and the removal of a large section for development comes off as the theft of public, communal land for private interests.
Section 9(4) of Provincial Parks and Conservation Reserves Act is supposed to be work as a safeguard against such hasty attempts at the disruption and breaking up of provincial parks and these proposed amendments go against not only the spirit of the act but against the spirit of these protected, public spaces. Furthermore, the use of expediting amendments allows for future changes to provincial parks with less citizen input, and indicates that this is not intended to be a one-off occurrence. This is extremely worrisome and threatens the safety of the natural beauty we are lucky and proud to be surrounded by here in Canada.
