The Jamesville site has remained undeveloped since I moved to Hamilton in 2019. As a city like many others in Canada, whose houseless population is growing, it is heartbreaking to witness available property sit untouched.
Jamesville presents a long‑overdue opportunity to address this crisis. The plan includes the construction of roughly 642 new housing units—including more than 100 affordable or supportive homes— built on land that’s been vacant and deteriorating for over 5 years (Global NewsCHCHthepublicrecord.caGlobal News).
I strongly support moving ahead with the Jamesville site redevelopment in Hamilton’s North End and the request for a Ministerial Zoning Order to circumvent any additional appeals or delays by CN Rail.
Jamesville is a prime candidate for responsible, transformative development. With smart mitigation and inclusive planning, goals for a mixed‑income site can finally replace past neglect with vibrancy, affordability, and long‑term community benefit. With people and families in urgent need of safe and affordable housing, the sooner construction begins, the better.
