Removing land from a public park for development goes against everything that makes sense for a viable future for this province and the health and wellbeing of its residents. The province should be adding more provincial parks not taking them away. Do you not know how high the demand is for camping sites and access to natural areas particularly in the summer? And you want to further reduce access? Not to mention disregarding environmental protection for endangered species and has there been consultation with First Nations? How are they going to benefit from the sale of their treaty and traditional lands? How is anyone going to benefit except for enriching a few developers and the handful of wealthy people that will buy the properties. The people of Ontario are so tired of the Ford government continuously threatening public lands, Greenbelt lands, and not having any sort of vision or plan for the public good. Public private partnerships can work but not when the public doesn’t benefit! Suggestion: Premier Ford take a trip to the Netherlands, Denmark, or other forward thinking jurisdictions and see for yourself the amazing benefits of bike lanes, parks, and so much other wonderful public infrastructure and see how it energizes their economies and societies. We could have so much more of this with a government that actually tried to be best in class rather than lagging so far behind in its thinking. Or perhaps it’s straight up corruption? That’s the only other possible explanation for such short-sighted decisions making. Time will tell but in the meantime don’t underestimate the level of pushback this kind of land grab will generate.
