Dear Premier Ford,
I am writing to you as a concerned resident of Ontario who cares deeply about our province’s natural heritage and cherished public spaces—particularly Wasaga Beach, one of Canada’s truly iconic waterfronts.
Wasaga Beach is more than just a beach. It is the world’s longest freshwater beach, a vital piece of Ontario’s tourism economy, and a treasured summer destination for generations of Ontarians. It’s a place where families gather, where children build memories, and where the stunning shoreline and natural habitats support both wildlife and recreation.
I understand that changes or development plans may be considered for this area. I urge you and your government: do not “touch” Wasaga Beach in a way that threatens its natural integrity, environmental health, or public access. We have all seen the consequences of shortsighted development in other parts of the province—once a place is paved over, it is lost forever.
Environmental conservation and sustainable tourism can go hand-in-hand, but not if ecological preservation is sacrificed for short-term interests. I sincerely ask that your government consult transparently with the community, environmental experts, and Indigenous groups, and above all, prioritize preserving Wasaga Beach in its most natural and accessible form.
Please do the right thing for future generations. Keep Wasaga Beach natural, protected, and public.
