To whom it may concern,
I believe hospitals should have bike lockers at the facilities. When I worked in Sudbury at Health Sciences North, they had bike lockers which permitted more people to commute to work. The bike lockers are individually closed in and people are unable to tamper with the bikes.
I am currently working at the Timmins and District Hospital which only has a few bike racks. Many staff members and patient avoid cycling to the hospital due to bike theft and bikes getting damaged. I believe bike lockers would make a big difference and a lot more people would be leaving their cars at home. Many staff members live close to the hospital since Timmins is not tha big but the walk is just too long. Bike lockers would contribute in making more people cycle to work and in turn leave there cars at home. Not only would this help the environment by bringing down the carbon emissions but would also free up parking for the patients who can not cycle in. Our parking is limited and always overfilled with vehicles.
I am a avid cyclist and many health care staff are health fanatics and love to cycle. I believe all hospitals should be equipped with bike lockers. Many of the staff members have high quality bikes which they do not want to have exposed to the public and the different weather conditions. Personally I have a "Fat Bike", a bike for the winter, which has exploded in the market over the last few years and would love to cycle to work year round. Many others would follow and keep cycling in the winter which would eliminate letting cars run for 15 minutes each morning to let it warm up before driving in to work.
Thanks,
Danny
