While I do support the legal hunting of waterfowl during a restricted hunting season for the purposes of human consumption - hunting cormorant almost year round with a ridiculously high bag limit seems preposterous to me. And nobody consumes cormorants, so this is just shooting for the fun of it. I cannot support this. At. All. There are other ways to manage wildlife populations. Ontario can do better than this. If you were to allow hunting of cormorant - again, I find this ethically repugnant, I feel it is a better strategy to include them with the waterfowl hunt season and limit the bag limit. Nobody wants to hear guns going off year round over wetlands and lakes. Plus, I would imagine that other waterbirds nest in the same habitats as cormorants (or nearby) and shooting during nesting season would have to be disruptive. I would hope you reconsider this strategy.
