I am from a lake association in Ontario and we have worked with our local Conservation Authority many times on many issues. They are very competent people who know the region they look after in great detail. They collaborate, educate, provide resources to the community, work with local municipal governments etc. In other words they know their territory very, very well. Ontario has many different regions that require different management strategies and only those who are on the ground in the region know what these are. Creating a central organization to manage all of these regions is madness and will not serve the people of each region.
As climate change gets worse, we, the people of Ontario need more boots on the ground taking samples, monitoring the environment, recognizing changes and taking action. The present government has proven time and time again that centralizing does not work, does not save money and does not serve people.
