Imagine your grandfather taking a walk. He's got his walker, and he's slowly and predictably crossing the road in a cross walk with a walk signal. Your uncle is with him, close by - they are following the rules and doing everything right. Suddenly a pickup truck whips through the crosswalk executing a left turn, violently colliding with your grandfather, sending him to the ground. After spending two weeks in a coma, he passes away. That was what happened to my family. My grandfather was a victim of road violence. In order to prevent more senseless deaths like this, we need to keep allowing cities to build more safe infrastructure - protected bicycle lanes, active transportation lanes, bus lanes, protected intersections, and other traffic calming measures. We need these things to encourage people to use public transit and active transportation, and studies show that these measures do not necessarily increase total travel time for drivers, due to the reduction in traffic volume, and easier and simpler driving conditions these measures provide. We need as much safe infrastructure and as many complete streets as possible in this beautiful province. We need to oppose this bill. All of our lives and those of our loved ones depend on it.
