I agree that traffic and congestion are a major source of air pollution especially in urban areas. I drive and ride my bike in the city, and I want to see more safe bike infrastructure built to allow me to choose biking more often and I do not want to see this Bill make it harder for cities to do that. I have seen future master plans and want the municipalities to go through with those plans that were also council approved. The city planners are the experts, and they know how to best allocate proper space on their roads based on usage and safety of all vulnerable users of the road.
Our communities will NOT be able to move forward with these backward Bills that maintain status quo to prioritize cars and not give other users safe options to efficiently get around. More space for cars only begets more drivers and thus more traffic. Do not maintain this status quo and allow ourselves to dream bigger on how our cities can be more pedestrian and people oriented, not just for cars. It benefits everyone to have more options to get around so people like me don’t choose driving all the time and will reduce traffic by not joining it when I have other options to get around. Think of all the children who crave independence and safety rather than seeing on the news another cyclist killed by a vehicle. Don’t create more red tape to build safe infrastructure that benefits everyone.
