I am writing to strongly protest Bill 66 which would poses a huge threat to our heritage buildings in Ontario which are currently protected.
Surely it is the duty of our representatives at Queen’s Park to protect the unique heritage gems that dot our province. These historic houses and public buildings reflect our past, create character, draw thousands of visitors each year and make our communities some of the most beautiful areas to live and visit in Canada.
Far too many of these historic and irreplaceable treasures have already been lost to “progress” by short-sighted developers and governments in the past and we must do what we can to protect the ones that remain.
We do not have to destroy our past in order to move forward. Cities and towns all over the world have found ways to protect their heritage buildings and still move forward with vibrant economic polices. It doesn’t have to be one or the other.
Government representatives with vision and an understanding of the importance of our history must make their voices heard.
