I strongly oppose the merger of the conservation authorities into a smaller number of entities. As a rural and small town area, it is important to have local governance and control over the watersheds in our area. We will lose the local aspect of dealing with our conservation authority if it is merged into a bigger unit. Right now there is great accountability from our local CA. Centralising the overall control of all the authorities in Toronto is a bad idea. Having a shared service bureau for administrative matters in Toronto might be a good idea though, to help reduce costs for the various authorities and to streamline the processes. It could obtain software that all the CAs could use, saving them money. It could ensure forms are the same across all CAs, and processes are essentially the same, with some potential regional variations if needed.
To reiterate, i strongly oppose the merger of the conservation authorities and want it to be stopped.
