I strongly disagree with the proposed changes to the boundaries of Ontario's conservation authorities.
Local regions have unique needs, and the existing employees already have an understanding of those needs. Local conservation authorities and local building departments already have working relationships, the elimination of the local CAs would stagnate these relationships and therefore reduce the speed of housing development.
Additionally, amalgamation of conservation authorities is a disservice to rural regions and populations - which incidentally played large role in the election of this government. This plan will reduce the number of rural jobs and also weaken the care taken of the rural lands and rivers on which we rely.
Conservation authorities are one of Ontario’s best tools for balancing the province’s urgent housing needs with watershed protection and climate resilience. Watershed decisions should be based on science, geography, and local hydrology, not on overly large administrative boundaries. The proposed consolidated regions are too large to remain effective and responsive to local needs.
