I am against this proposal…

I am against this proposal. Ontario's current watershed management approach is envied by the world. We are a global leader. Why diminish our reputation during such a critical time in world geopolitics?

Effective flood prevention requires local knowledge and community connection to the land. Regional watershed experts have a special understanding of the unique characteristics within their local watersheds and subwatersheds, such as the impact of dominant soil textures on a landscape's capacity to absorb and retain water during high surface runoff events. These high impact storms are increasing with climate change, augmenting the need for local expertise. This proposed change is in direct opposition to this need.

Additionally, taxation serves the purpose of local representation. As a government-adjacent service, constituents are entitled to these highly important services and protections provided by people within our own communities. Removing that local representation is a violation of our democratic right to local representation.
