I am a resident of Thunder Bay, and am VERY OPPOSED to the Province’s proposed amalgamation of the Lakehead Region Conservation Authority (LRCA) with six other Southern Ontario Conservation Authorities to form the “Huron-Superior Regional Conservation Authority”. The distance separating the LRCA from these other jurisdictions is vast, the geography, biology and hydrology are different, and the issues and human populations are very different; water from Lake Superior takes upwards of 200 years to move to the lower Great Lakes. I grew up in Grey County and find it unfathomable that I could drive for two whole days from my current home to my former home, and still be in the same conservation authority!
I support LRCA’s recommendation that the Lakehead Region Conservation Authority remain a stand-alone regional conservation authority, potentially known as the “Northwestern Ontario Regional Conservation Authority”.
Thank you
