I do not support Bill 66 to remove the protection of the Planning Act and Provincial Policy Statements for significant built heritage resources and significant cultural landscapes anywhere in the Province of Ontario.
I do not support the "Open for business planning by-laws" as they could/will pose serious risks to our heritage buildings and other cultural heritage resources. By exempting land use proposals from cultural heritage policies in the PPS and Official Plans the by-laws would effectively eliminate requirements for heritage impact assessments, archaeological assessments and other measures designated to ensure that heritage is considered in planning decisions. Even designated heritage property could/and would be more vulnerable since a municipality that passes such a by-law for a property may be more likely to approve any demolition request from the owner.
As a Citizen of the Province of Ontario I respect and value the heritage of this Province. Bill 66 has the potential to remove any heritage attributes of our past.
I respectfully request that Bill 66 not pass second reading.
