Bill 66 schedule 10 should be withdrawn and abandoned. The effects of this bill put at risk our farmland ,natural heritage systems, our democracy, our wildlife, our wells and water sources. It renders impotent the protections we, our land, our farmers and our wildlife need that is provided by the laws in schedule 10. Farms, homes, wells, safe water, wildlife all are important and of greater importance than the speed developers/builders want in development of our farmland and nature.
There is plenty of employment land and residential land available that this government does not have to open our Greenbelt nor our Oak Ridges Moraine to sprawling development.
It offends our democracy to allow a municipality to pass an OFB planning bylaw without notice, with no public consultation and no appeal process. This is particularly offensive.
The Planning Act, our Official Plan and zoning bylaws have developed over time with community needs and public input of residents, and the expertise of planners. To give developers a pass and ignore good planning, and due diligent requirements is irresponsible, unwarranted, and unacceptable.
Ontario has the Clean Water Act to prevent a recurrence of the Walkerton tragedy. What part of prevention does this government not understand?
At a time and place where we all need to understand the effects of climate change and how to prevent further destruction of our natural environment and mitigate the damage that has already been done, this government is regressive and irresponsible to its citizens, to benefit only the developers who clearly do not care about the land they destroy for their profit.
This is not about red tape.
Stop Bill 66 Schedule 10.
